CARE & LAUNDRY INSTRUCTIONS

FOR YOUR POCKET DIAPERS

How to Care For Your Diapers:

Pocket Diapers must be washed after every use.  Store wet and dirty diapers in a dry pail until wash day. Older babies’ solid waste can be removed by gently shaking the diaper over a toilet, rinsing any residual waste is not necessary. The fleece will release solids easily – there is no need to rinse them before washing .* You should always prewash your pocket diapers and inserts before first use.

Washing instructions for pocket diapers and trainers:

·Remove the inserts
·Cold Soak for 10-20 minutes depending on the level of dirt or run through a   short cold wash cycle if you do not have a soak cycle.
·Wash on hot with ½ to ¼ of the recommended amount of detergent
·Optional-You can add a downy ball of vinegar to the wash if the diapers have a heavy urine scent. Happy Heiny's recommends a downy ball because it releases the vinegar at the right time - no need to wait by the machine.
·Rinse well to ensure all detergent is removed from diapers.
· Do NOT use fabric softener. FOR HAPPY HEINY’s: Dry on high heat. The high heat of the dryer will keep your Happy Heiny functioning like new.

Do’s & Don’ts:

·    DO wash your diapers after every use

·    DON'T overuse detergent. Using too much detergent will result in  detergent build-up on the fleece. Over time this may cause leaking, since the fleece is no longer porous,

·    DON'T use bleach or fabric softeners.

·    DON'T wash natural fibers (such as cotton prefolds or cotton cloth wipes) in the same load with your Pocket Diapers. The lint released from these natural fiber products can pill on the fleece, resulting in a coarse feel, though they will still be effective. Microterry Inserts are safe to wash with your Pocket Diapers.

·   DON'T use diaper creams with your pocket Diapers, as they may stain or produce leaking. When diaper creams are necessary, liners may be used between your baby and the diaper, though these should be washed separately from your Pocket Diaper.

Recommended Detergents:

Tide Regular or Free, Cheer Regular or Free, Arm and Hammer Regular or Free, Allen's Naturally, E-Cover or Purex and Charlies Soap.

Detergents to Avoid:

Natural soaps often contain various oils. These should NOT be used because they will leave a residue on fleece, causing it to repel liquids. Also avoid ALL Free & Clear, Dreft, Ivory Snow, Dr. Bronners, Sport-Wash and Sensi-Clean.

Checking for Detergent Residue:

Pocket diapers are primarily made of polyester materials and the inserts are made of microfiber which make them easy candidates for detergent build-up. If you suspect that your pocket diapers are leaking due to detergent residue, try to strip wash them ..

*STRIP WASHING*

Every once in awhile someone encounters persistant odor, repelling fleece, or leaking diapers. If you are experiencing this, then your Pocket Diapers are ready for some special cleaning

1. Start with your Pocket Diapers in a clean state or wash them as you normally would.

2. Run your Pocket Diapers and inserts through a hot water, heavy duty cycle without any detergent.

3. Run a cold rinse. If you have hard water, add Baking Soda (per the instructions on the box for laundry) to soften your water, which helps release residual detergent.

4. If you still see bubbles in your rinse water, run another cold rinse using the baking soda. Repeat until you see no more soap bubbles.

5. For stains or odors, sun dry your pocket diapers.

We suggest a maintenance "strip wash" once a month to ensure they remain free of detergent residue.
